Rita’s Best Designs
A little background…
After a career with the Department of Corrections, I retired and was able to start exploring creative pursuits. I’ve always enjoyed sewing, and my generous husband suggested upgrading to an embroidery machine. When I found out you could buy software and create your own designs, I was hooked!
A few years later, I had the opportunity to work part time at Pam Clarke’s shop(amazing professional long arm
quilter) in Spokane, where I found a lot of inspiration. Pam created a beautiful appliqued BOM every
year. I loved the applique, but hated
handwork. With Pam’s permission, I
figured out a way to digitize the appliques.
Some of those early designs required 6 hoopings!
One of the many perks for working at Pam’s shop was access to the long arm machines. When her shop closed, that opportunity ended. Which inspired me to create a totally unique version of the “quilt as you go” concept. My goal was to maintain the look and feel of a professionally quilted quilt. This is the philosophy behind all of my designs. With this in mind, I created Tulips and Roses, a 98” by 98” beautifully custom quilted quilt. The blocks and sashings are stitched out with the embroidery machine, and then joined together using a technique that adds no bulk to the quilt.
What began as a hobby has grown into a business. What began as applique in the hoop designs has expanded to quilt in the hoop and piece in the hoop designs. What began as sparse acknowledgement has grown to respect and affirmation, from clients and professionals. Did I mention that one of my clients recently had her Tulips and Roses quilt professionally appraised… at $3,500.00! Machine embroidery enthusiasts desiring quality designs which maximize the functions of their machines will not be disappointed!
In addition, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with companies I respect… I develop the MDQ software webinars for Floriani, and have made several patterns for Northcott fabrics. Yep, retirement is good!
To share the joy of creativity.
I am always amazed at the wonderful things my clients have done with my designs! The choices of fabrics and threads makes each design totally unique… your opportunity to express your creativity.
